Landing at Green 1
Scenario Description: Saipan, June 15th, 1944. The 715th Amphibious tractor battalion landed at the wrong beach at Green-1 and must work through the chaos of both enemy fire and the congestion of friendly troops to breakthrough the enemy defenses over looking the coast. Their task was for more than establish a bridgehead but to drive a spearhead a mile inland into the foothills. The Japanese defenders of the 136th infantry Regiment must destroy the Amtraks as they head in land and sequester the marines on the beach.
Historically, the Japanese forces stalled the advance of the Marines during the initial landing, pinning most them on the beach or just a few hundred yards inland. However, their advantage was frittered away during a night assault covered in the next scenario.
Setup: This scenario use two maps set up side by side as indicated below (with map numbers and orientation of the the corner with the number UR= Upper Right)
F3(UR) F2(UR)
Order of Battle:
715th Amphibious Tractor Battalion Company C

Deployment:

Allied units deploy on the leftmost hex of the battlefield.
Victory Conditions: Victory is determined as soon as one of these conditions is met
a) All Amtrack units are destroyed or 8 turns have elapsed
b) At least one Amtrack unit successfully exits the right side of the map.
An Axis victory occurs if condition 'a' is met and an Allied victory occurs if condition 'b' is met.
Special Rules:
Units may exit the battlefield along the right edge during either the movement or assault phase. Treat the edge as a clear hex for the purposes of movement.
For all Amtrack units replace the SA 'Transport" with the SA 'Heavy Transport"
For all 70mm Type 92 units replace the SA 'Indirect Fire' with the SA 'Improved Indirect Fire'
