Safe Trading Guidelines
1. Post the list of miniatures you have to trade and a list of what you want in a new thread in the 'Marketplace' forum. (There are plenty of examples on the forum.)
2. After you post, another trader may send you a PM with a trade proposal. A trade proposal will likely follow this format:
"I will send you x,y, and z in return for your a, b, c."
3. Go to the Good/Bad Trader List to check the other trader's record. aaminis.myfastforum.org/about168.html
● As a general rule you can trust anyone on the board that is on the 'good trader' list or that has been posting on the board for a long time.
● If it is your first trade, there are some people that will want to receive your trade package before they send their trade package to you. (On the first trade, this is not considered unreasonable, but for your safety, make sure they are on the Good Trader list.)
● Trades can be for one piece or a bunch of pieces. The general 'rule of value' is one rare = two uncommons = four commons. There are exceptions to this rule, so it may also help to go to the store sites of our sponsors to get a valuation on the mini's involved. (Example: Set II W@S common Hellcat planes commonly sell for $20 US, while a Set III rare Prince of Wales only sells for $13 US.)
● We have a nice board. Most people have been more likely to propose trades that are slightly in their own disfavor than otherwise in my experience.
● What is valuable to you may not be valuable to someone else, so don't be surprised if there is some back-and-forth bartering. That is perfectly reasonable and the best way to determine the value between two traders.
● When negotiating a trade make sure you are happy with what you want/will accept for a trade before you make/accept an offer. It is OK to think about a pending offer before deciding just communicate that.
4. If it is an acceptable trade and you feel comfortable with the other trader's reputation, reply to the PM that you agree and provide them with your name and address.
5. They should then reply with confirmation and send you their name and address. The trade is not considered a done deal until the other trader confirms. Once both parties agree to the trade and the addresses are exchanged that is the equivalent of a "handshake" and both parties should ship as soon as possible to complete the exchange
● Good protocol for shipping is to put your cards in a protective sleeve and put your mini's in a ziplock bag.
● Mailing in a small cardboard box is best. A padded envelope is okay for small ships, but it is not good for aircraft or large or detailed miniatures.
● Be sure to put adequate padding in the box so the minis don't rattle around (foam peanuts, paper).
● Please use proper shipping tape to seal the box.
● In the U.S., for domestic trades, most good traders ship standard first class mail with USPS tracking. We highly advise this!!!
● Send your trader a PM saying it has been mailed and give him the tracking number from the receipt after you mail the package. That way they can track it on-line if they choose. Tracking also protects you if the package is lost in the mail.
● For international shipping you will be required to mail first-class airmail. Generally it is a good idea to trade for multiple miniatures to justify the cost of shipping for an international trade. Shipping between the U.S. and Canada is usually only a little more than domestic shipping. You will need to fill out a customs form. Put 'toys' for contents and a reasonable money value (but go low). The Customs form number can be used for limited package tracking. If you use USPS online, e-Tracking is available for some packages.
7. When the package arrives with everything as agreed send your trader a PM telling him it came and that you will give him a +1 on the "Good trader List". If something is missing or wrong send the trader a PM and explain the problem. It is likely an honest mistake. Don't give someone a bad trader report (see aaminis.myfastforum.org/about41828.html ) until you give them a chance to correct the problem.
8. Then go to the Good Trader list sticky thread at the top of the Marketplace forum and post a message that says: "Please give traderX a +1"
9. Edit frequently to keep your list up-to-date as you trade!
Alternatively, you can send a PM to another member if you find something you want on their list and you have suitable pieces to trade that he wants.
It all sounds more complicated than it is.
Extra tip. You usually only need a small box to ship these in. (Most people do use boxes). So keep the box your mini's arrive in and recycle it for your next trade. I also buy some singles on-line and I save those boxes too.

Trade Thread Guidelines
Thread Titles
When making a trade thread please be courteous to other members looking to peruse the lists, one way to foster this is that when you make a thread please prefix your thread with one of the following two acronyms based on what you are looking to trade
-AAM
-W@S
-A20
If you trade all (Cross-trades or no) then you can either do the combination tag (AAM/W@S/A20) or no tag at all.
This tagging system should allow people to filter through the lists somewhat easier.
Two additional notes regarding good trader etiquette:
1) Please don't constantly bump your trade list. Bumping your trade list every week or so is reasonable. Bumping it every day is not. Everyone else deserves time with their trade lists at the top of the Marketplace, and by constantly bumping your trade list, you deny that to everyone except yourself.
2) Please don't beg. It's actually a turn-off that makes people less likely to want to trade with you. If no one is taking your offer, it probably means that no one is interested in that particular offer and you need to change your offer up. Begging in no way makes a trade more likely.
