Taught a buddy, veteran gamer at the FLGS how to play Angels 20 today. We started out with one of the starter scenarios, P-38 rookie and FM-1 Wildcat vs. an Oscar and A6M3 Escort. After running him through the basics we played a few rounds, adding in more advanced rules when he went. When his brother showed up we hooked him in by giving him a Navy Corsair (and adding a Tojo to the IJN list). Much fun was had, and both were impressed with the quality of the minis and game. Hoping to get together with 'em and do it some more in the future.
They were both surprised the game was no longer in production, but I showed them some fair auctions on EBay where they could get starters if they wanted.
I listened to the rant of a FLGS operator on the weekend, who like so many of us, can't believe that Hasbro (through Wizards of the Coast) just basically walked away from something that was making money. And clearly, from the eBay listings, there remains demand. Whether it's WAS, AAM or AAAF, money could be made on even reisssuing some of the series. Pretty blinkered thinking on the part of the owners of this property.
Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...
