USS Seattle was laid down as the Tennessee-class armored cruiser USS Washington in 1903. She was renamed USS Seattle in 1916. She served as the escort flagship for American Expeditionary forces traveling to France in 1917. USS Seattle was passed in and out of active service between the wars. By 1941 she was used as a receiving ship in New York as the United States Navy prepared for war. Seattle was finally sold for scrapping in 1946.
