So I been working on the Impero Carrier Conversion Model and I need some advice.
Here is the only reference I can find about the conversions.
And here is a basic copy of that.
Not a bad start, but looks rather blah. And there isn't concrete plans out there for me to "fit" her out. So my question is, should I just run some port holes up and down her sides and maybe a few other details. Or should I "Aquila" her up with AA emplacements, lifeboats and cranes. Basically make her look like a typical WW2 carrier. I want to make something people will be interested in but not change her so much that you won't be able to identify it as a Roma Conversion.
Considering the date this ship would have been commissioned (had she been commissioned), I find it hard to believe she wouldn't have the kind of AA "gun tubs" that most carriers (including Aquila) would have.
Personally, I'd like the added "Aquila details" to the basic hull form you've got, above.

Once you get the basic design down, the fiddle bits need only be as accurate as you want them to be. I did an Iowa carrier conversion. Once I got the big stuff I just filled blank areas with little details I felt fit the overall design cues of other USN carriers.
I call it the fudge factor. Unless you are a perfectionist this small scale means you can fudge on the details. How much is up to you.
Sweet Dritt, I agree the detail is not all that important at this scale, afterall most of us would be happy with any kind of approximate representation of the models we require for the tabletop. The guys at Shapeways do a fabulous job.

Splendid representations both Squint the Progetto is a sweet as a pale full of kittens. Rota is gorgeous too, I like distinctive looking units like this...easy to identify, and therefore bomb!!! lol
Nice job mate
