Alberto De Zara - Italy - 1940 Soldier - Commander Born 8 April 1889 - Padua, Kingdom of Italy Died 4 June 1951 - Foggia, Italy COMMANDER: Your fleet may include one Commander. This unit is attached to a friendly ship in the deployment phase. If that ship is destroyed or removed from the map, this unit is destroyed. CRIPPLING SALVO: if the ship this Commander is attached to, damages an enemy ship with its main gunnery. That ship has the effects of being crippled until the end of next turn [the target isn't automatically reduced to 1 hull point] SHADOWING: At the beginning of your Air Attack step, you may choose an enemy Ship. Your Aircraft roll one extra attack die when attacking that Ship this turn.
Entering the Italian Naval Academy in 1907. Alberto De Zara was first assigned to the battleship Roma in 1911 and served in the brief Italo-Turkish war of 1911-12 and the first world war. Including a stint commanding a garrison on the Austro-Hungarian island of Pelagosa. As his career progressed, he was assigned commands of gunboats, as a far away at the Yangtze river. He was made Captain in 1933 of the then new light cruiser Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'Aosta. Then returning to the far east with another cruiser. After italian occupied Albania in 1939, as Vice-Admiral and maritime commander in the region. When Italy went to war with the Allies, he was commanding a Cruiser division, seeing action at the fringes of the battle of Calabria. Then with the command of the 7th Cruiser Division in June 1942 conducted one as successful attack on the Harpoon Convoy to Malta and would have sailed to contest the later Pedestal Convoy but was recalled. At armistice in 1943 is was commander of a battleship division, but ascended to commander of the the fleet after his superior was killed when the Battleship Roma was sunk by the Luftwaffe.
Note that I made Crippling Salvo a plural like one of the earlier SAs. I am not very keen on using the same SA name with different text. At least this differentiates it a little.
