Is is pertinent, you think, that Potus refused to deploy US troops and the russians soon there after moved?
Well, yes, Of course.
The ONLY way to deter aggression from either Russia or China is to station United States troops in the path of the aggressors.
If it is made clear that moving on an ally would be an attack on the U.S. then the attack won't happen. Otherwise, it will.
It is the only card we have to prevent an attack and if we don't play it everyone, on both sides, knows what it means.
If you kill American soldiers you are at war with the United States. If there are no American soldiers in the area you plan to attack you may do so without consequences.
So I just got a message before midnight from my best friend saying Kiev is being bombed.
I feel sorry for all the Ukrainian people. This war is going to be ugly, thousands will die. Many more displaced.
What about the Ukrainian people the Ukrainians have been bombing for the last 10 years? Many thousands have already died over the years. Once again the US is backing the wrong side just to further their political and financial gains. They don't care about the Ukrainian people they just want to 5h1t stir Russia and the Ukrainian people will be the ones to pay for it.
Remember the US backed Iran until they kicked them out. Remember the US backed Iraq (Saddam Hussein) against Iran until they kicked them out. Remember the US backed Bin Laden (Taliban) against the Russians in Afghanistan who were invited in to help fight the US backed and supplied terrorist group. Remember the lies and BS that lead to the invasion of Iraq.
Now they're backing a government that bombs its own people, sold an Russian aircraft carrier to China as a "floating hotel" and sold ex-soviet ballistic missile tech to North Korea.
America's economy thrives on war. WW1 made the US a great industrial power. WW2 made the US a great military power. Their allies paying of their Lend-Lease debt kept their economy afloat. We're buying the US nuke subs just so we can prop up the US economy. Now there's a war starting were they can sell a lot of weapons to prop their economy and its on another countries soil. That's a win win win for the US.
Part of me wants to scream "do a freedom of navigation mission"
The entirety of presumptions of geopolitics may well shift. The presumptio rhat the US has means/willingness to enforce its word is now in question. China, Russia can act with impunity, India? Japan, France, Brazil & Argentina what about them. I doubt we'll see world war 3 but the harvest of Iraq is about to be reaped
So here we are, 2 months into this conflict/invasion/war & Putin seems to be perhaps upping the ante as to NATO with his latest commentary, about lightning swift repercussions towards anyone who assists Ukraine in any way...any wagers as to where this all ends up, this ain't no Shit my friends, this is for REAL!
Mods, if this is out of line, feel free to delete or lock, but I really would like to know what we formuminians & inhabitants of this world feel about this situation, it could go very BAD & soon I hate to say.
I suppose, in the manner of donenz and the crimea. They ruskies might just dig in on the bits they want to keep. Ukraine wont be likely to launch an offensive against defended positions any time soon.
Allowing ukraine to join NATO could be construed an act of aggression to force them out where there looked to be a possibility of a negotiated ceasefire.
Why did Putin do this? Because he didn't want the US/NATO on his border. If he invades and takes Kiev then Ukraine becomes part of Russia and he still ends up with the US/NATO on his border this is counter productive. What he's doing is the same as what was done to Germany at the end of WW2 and Korea in the 50's. Splitting the country. By "liberating" the Donbas and recognising their independence he sets up an airbag nation between US?\/NATO and Russia.
Like I said before the US don't care about the Ukrainians they just want to bring down Russia at any expense just like they didn't care about the Afghans when they supplied Bin Ladin and his mates against the Russians nor did they care about the Iraqis when they backed Saddam Hussein against Iran.
Im not supporting Russia's actions because I believe none of this should be happening but the hypocrisy of all this is unbelievable. I kew the general population would have a 10 second memory and forget all about Iraq.
How many civilians did the US murder in their illegal invasion of Iraq? How many of our members are aware that the US was using drones to murder woman and children in the middle of the night? During WW2 when the Japanese were retreating back through Manilla the US, UK and Australia bombed and shelled Manilla killing over 100 000 civilians but we don't talk about that do we.
The US will be making a lot of money out of this at the expense of the Ukrainian people.

This reminds me, Bush had possibly the worst Freudian slip of the past while yesterday when giving a speech on the current 'special operation'. His quote:
"Russian elections are rigged. Political opponents are imprisoned or otherwise eliminated from participating in the electoral process. The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia. And the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq. I mean of Ukraine. Iraq too. Anyway. 75."
Talk about an awkward moment. Not really going to comment on the politics of any of it at all, but quite the soundbite.
