Flak, been a long time my friend. I've been pretty busy with real life, but attempting to get back into things here.
On the commanders, has there been any consideration given to the old Forumini Admiral's cards? These existed on the forum WAY back in the day (I think they date from before Deck 2, and from before I joined the forum many moons ago. Not my cards, but I've always liked them. Link to the old images here for anyone interested:

We had a fairly long discussion and the admirals were considered. My hope was to as closely match existing cards in term of utility and value. In such a way it wasn't a seperate game set once applied
Well wasn't expecting that reveal but mixed views really, it depends if these are now showing the Italian & UK slots in their entirety?
Italian side of the starter looks pretty solid considering choices, although no fleet sub, yet two additional cruisers to Bari making three.
The UK slots are definitely more open to debate. UK has no Flower class yet (and still no Black Swan class!) but Peony is a poor choice, I don't see it being anything special. Can't understand why Hyacinth has not been picked when it was in this particular convoy battle. According to wiki it was the RN's second most successful flower with three u boat kills, more scope for better SA's. Berwick is coming straight after another class similar last deck and is seemingly like Kelvin, being picked to fill the starter/battle particular requirements rather than what might be needed/preferred. Ironically Hotspur was in this battle but we did that last deck! Also not sure without access to my cards but I seem to think Manchester at least has a printed fan card (seas ablaze? can anyone confirm this) which would make me personally prefer the other town class cruiser in the battle - Southampton (class leader) from a duplication perspective etc.
Feedback is appreciated. Yes, the thematic consideration were significant. Within the scope of a historical order of battle, as much differentiation as possible was aimed for.
Just looking at this starter again, has a DD with two speed destroyer sweep (TSDS) ever been considered? Most could carry it and as far as I know has not been represented yet. This would give a fighting SPEED 2 mine sweeping capability and be better than a plodding HMS Peony, which I still think is a wasted unit/slot. A lot of RN DDs took part in these battles one way or another, which the starter is concerned with, and ironically Faulknor & Hotspur were both there and carried this but obviously we did them last deck. But others like Greyhound (also two u boat kills) & Gallant (Griffin would also have done) could be used. The fact that Cigno has changed unit and Ottawa in that guise was not at these battles shows some flexibility to the set. You could argue that most of the UK starter units would not have been in this set and it feels like putting square pegs into round holes somewhat (do we need a new Ark Royal?). It would have been more flexible for a starter from the theater as a whole or even just expanded to a particular year (pretty much all these UK surface units as is are going to be start of war entry dates). I'm presuming this battle was chosen looking more from what the Italians could choose from, although I'm not desperate for their new operational variant cards for the sake of it but can live with it as the Italians pretty much have everything covered. Scire last deck was the last obvious gap and anything else is a bonus. Pretty much same for everybody else, US got USS Card last deck which filled that historical gap and the only obvious thing now is a redone Op. Hornet card, otherwise it's all icing on top. It's the UK that still has the most gaps and this starter list is not helping that. The county class cruisers are already well represented but we are low in the important Dido, C class(AA) & towns. The next likely town class after Sheffield would prob have been Glasgow in terms war activity but if it is going to be a town from this battle, Southampton could have the added attraction of having a flag/cruiser leader. Kelvin is now giving us a repeat of a start of war class like Nubian is with the tribals and in that choice Nubian wins hands down. The start of war DD classes are now well represented and the gaps in are in the mid war flotillas. the standard fit Med L's (Lookout, Lightning) & arctic flotillas O & M (Onslow, Musketeer). The earlier inter war V & W classes and flotilla class leaders (Keppel) are also lacking. The Black Swan class is the biggest historical gap without question and a UK flower (not Peary!) comes second to that. Regarding subs I've mentioned before the UK is still playing catch up having gone a couple of decks without getting one. We should be getting a second S/U class but we are going back to the T class really for a better early war unit than what triton turned out to be. Ideally any other T class would have been Trenchant (mid war entry date), which is the elephant in the room now. One of the highest regarded sub kills of the war when it sank the escorted Ashigara in shallow confined, mined waters - it should/would have been a VC action but it was overtaken by end of war events and forgotten (though not buy the US (legion of merit). Other gaps still, CAM/MAC ship, converted AA auxiliary (HMS Palomares) for better aux choices.
Just my thoughts because I care! Who knows if this will be the last deck but if it was, some of those UK choices would leave a poor bookmark and the game without a Starling, Onslow, Keppel, Trenchant etc. A travesty!
I've been reluctant to put any more units into action. However, a few have rattled out the last week or so, so i may put the last minor navy unit into development over the next few days, leaving only the uk, us, soviets and japanese to do after
It was my intention to rack up another allied ship and commander and same for the axis. However it is perhaps best to wait til we get some PT info before adding the commanders.
I will set up the Tarpon and Chiyoda CVL when i am able
