If you ask me, it's not worth his time. Going iOS or Android route is half baked as you cover half of your dissipating demographic of an already OOP game. New web does put more resources on browser as it's not using database, but once loaded it's cached and you load only images which are really not that big.
Hey guys, I'm developer behind cardbase for which Ober kindly covered domain and hosting fees.
Hosting is standard Windows on plus.hr, I don't think there are multiyear discount as we have already 30% discount for using my buddy's reseller program. In anticipation for shutting down I made another version without database and placed it on Google Firebase web hosting on address aamcardbase.web.app/ I have dropped card back side and it's missing print and Army builder feature for now. I thought about dropping builder but its popular according to analytics so I'll try to squeeze it in.
I'm not sure what free tier limits are, as there are listed Hosting data transfer 360 MB/day and Cloud storage 1 GB/day, dunno which one applies. 360 MB/day should mean 3000 card views par day as card is around 100kb on average. So I'm gonna ask you to start browsing new cardbase lightly to check for errors and to check if free tier should suffice cardbase needs. I have fixed SU-122 armor 5/4, some typos and letter cases, someone might compose some light homepage text to explain defferentiation between cardbase card stats and paper card, I know I was confused.
Same hosting covers Tanks! game on tanks.aamcardbase.com/. I can move it too but would like to drop saving to database. I might try to save build to url as Army builder works, but can't promise much. I am inbetween changing jobs right now so quite low on time in future
I think it's cool to look into other forms of using this incredible tool. However, I think we should endeavor to keep the original up and running, as well. triggermike, if you're still willing to handle the PayPal side of things to make sure the money gets to Ober for payment, we should go forward with that. I would hate to lose the resource while we're working on something else.
I haven't done in-person gaming in forever, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it soon...and I'd love it if that cardbase was still there so I can build my armies...
Grgbobe, I agree with you. I will still look next week to meet my developper and try to start working on a mobile app, even if it covers only 50% on the market.
Well, I think this post has been up long enough for everybody to see by now. Looks like we have 8 people pledging to support the funding for the AAM database. If any body has changed their mind, please speak up. I have the following that have shown interest.
SHERMY
CURTM1911
GRGBOBE
STALKER6
BOMMERBILL
THOR1711
LOUPROTETEUR
and myself of course.
evenly split, that is $11.25 ea. I will get in touch with Ober and get some details on getting this paid for.
I would like to make a contribution. I used the database a whole lot when I first joined the site and received my first mini's and then some. It's an invaluable resource for sure.
The plan is, I will pay the individual in full for the hosting fees when the time comes, sometime in November. Then everybody who wishes to contribute will send me their share, preferably through PAYPAL. So far it looks like we have 10 people interested, so it would be roughly $9.00 each. That is based on last years cost. I will have an exact amount in November.
