I took a step deeper into the 3d printer obsession by picking up a Photon Mono last month. I was not always happy with the results from my Ender, though it's still great for printing things like Catan tiles, terrain, and movement trays. But holy cow these resin minis are amazing.
Left to right: Ghukek's Bogue straight off Thingiverse, Arkansas and Florida from Ben Wynn & Andrew Tanner's "Broadside: Empires of Steel" Kickstarter. Those BBs were designed for a 1:1500 default, but they scaled down to 1:1800 perfectly (Once I remembered to print the turrets at the right scale!)
So, my next question for those of you with experience with resin: how do they take paint? I've heard that spray primers can damage resin (sort of like stryofoam). Will a coat of Vallejo Primer do the job to get started?
In my experience with XPForge/Ghukek and Shapeways resin models, as long as you clean them, they take paint exceptionally. I've never seen a primer damage one, but maybe an oil-based primer might. Vallejo and Army Painter (and even anything safe for plastic) are primers I've used and never had a problem.
Tamiya primer is also a top rated primer. Maybe the best. It is alcohol-based, but I think it would be fine on resin. It is used on traditional resin cast parts for scale models all the time. I have always had good luck with it.
Vallejo is fine and I have used it as well. I am not a fan of Army Painter, but maybe I just had a bad can of it.

Did not mean to Hijack the thread... Point is that oil based paints work fine on resin prints. TY for the complements of the ship but they are not deserved. The painting of the ship was very simplistic. Tamiya Fine white primer, Tamiya TS-99 IJN Gray, White for lifeboats, shade wash, white drybrush, deck decal, porthole decals, Tamiya clear coat flat. Compared to a GHQ CV, time to complete is minimal. The decals do the majority of the skill lift :-)

Those porthole decals are dope. You're killing me...I'm going to have to buy some now. Are they customized by carrier or just a group set generic to any ship?
