In the previous threads i posted on this topic. Much discussion was made about expanding outside the scope of team deck, in various ways.
I'd encourage posters to do so with as much detail and with examples of thier ideas, specific units, mechanics and how it is anticipated to improve the game.
There are no wrong answers or opinions in this exercise. It is enough to say that you dont agree with a proposal amd briefly why.
Admirals (as represented as a flotilla/formation) - feel this is a better approach. Akin to AAM platoons
Name Squadrons - i see these functions as if a operational variant ship. Im not sure how it really varies from existing differentiation by mark or model.
Upgrades - strongly oppose any 1point to adf +1 attack dice type upgrades. Think flotillas is a much better way to deal with this.
I have mentioned this before. Destroyers and Auxiliary often has their armament changed to suit missions notably destroyers who change their armour meant from minesweeping gear to Extra ASW equipment in a couple of hours. Many times I have read accounts of Ships captains percuring extra AA guys before going to battle when they knew about enemy air activity.
I am of the belief that Destroyers are getting the short shaft with pricing. Cruisers get cheaper. Leets give them a load out card for free. That can be stuff like 1 extra AA dice ( or a re-roll)
1 extra ASW or re - roll Gain the ability “ minesweeper” Troop ferry, VO on opposition island.
I'm in support of an Admirals deck similar to what happened on the First Forum. I posted this topic to my IG war at sea page and only got one comment and a negative one.
Erwin Rommel - "Give me American supply lines, British planes, German officers and Canadian troops, and I can take over the world".
An idea I had along these lines were Task Force cards.
Something along the lines of (THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE TO ILLUSTRATE THE IDEA, NOT AN ABILITY PROPOSAL)
Kido Butai: If your fleet contains three units from the list, all your dive bombers may reroll 1 die once per attack.
Akagi some cruisers some destroyers Kaga Hiryu Soryu
This is inline with what im thinking. Admirals/Taskforces are qualified by historic ships and give bonuses related to thier activities. Not a situation where you just whack and admiral in to boost ASW.
Another thought i had was of secondary objectives. Have a stack of random objectives worth 1/4 your fleet value. Have things like, counduct landing, sweep mines, lay mines ect
I see upgrades as a way to add SA's to a unit. Each card could have the rules for upgrades on it but it would be better if a new rule for upgrades was published by the forum with a new edition for the rulebook.
Upgrades could have a cost associated with them like "DMS Refit" your destroyer gains the SA sweep mines. Or it could have no cost associated and sacrifice something for the new SA. "DMS Refit", your destroyer gains the SA sweep mines and loses its ASW attack value.
Upgrades could also add stats. "Armored Flight Deck Refit" The aircraft carrier this is attached to gains +1 A and +1 VA. Or it could be the same and also include the SA cramped facilities to make it a zero cost addition.
I see "Admirals" or rather named characters as similar. "Maj. Pappy Boyington" The American fighter squadron this is attached to gains the SA "Ace Fighter"
