As I'm moving over the custom cards, I am saving a copy to a portable hard drive so I will at least have a good digital copy. I already have most of the scenario PDFs, as well. They will live forever 😁
Hrmm, I wonder if there's a way to archive the old forumini. Maybe onto a disc.
I'm attempting to do just that... but it's enormous, almost 400,000 files at about 35GB, and I'm only able to pull about 1300 files/hour (that works out to roughly 13 days of extraction), unfortunately it's not the size that's slowing it down, the individual files are tiny - it's the quantity, it takes longer to read & index each file than it does to copy. Also the extraction app I'm using won't be able to reach "members only" areas like the Lounge, and likely won't see the hidden threads.

Are you able to exclude anything from the archiving? For example, the online play sections. While it is fun to go back to those, a huge number of posts and amount of data has to be tied up in all the online games played. That could save a lot of time/space.

Unfortunately no, it was a complete dump and burned out that computer after 4 days and about 30K worth of files. It's not a good solution.
So, call me crazy (crazy), but might we be able to leverage the power of archive.org or something like ArchiveBot (http://www.archiveteam.org/index.php?title=ArchiveBot) to 'do the work for us'?
Is the old forum still going away on June 1? If it is under new ownership, is it possible to continue moving files/records after that date?
The old forum seems to be safe.
The announcement by the myfastforum owner is:
"We are partnering with Tapatalk so the MyFreeForums will continue to exist for many, many years to come. I am working with Tapatalk to migrate to latest cloud based servers using IBM Softlayer, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon AWS. By moving to cloud based servers, will help provide increased stability and scalability to MyFreeForums. The migration will start in the next 1-2 months, and other than a few hours of maintenance down time, the transition ti new servers should be completely invisible.
I would also like to introduce Chris (TTChris), a member of the Tapatalk team that has many years experience as a Forum Admin. Chris will be monitoring the Support Forum and be available to answer any questions."
I talked to my wife about all of that and it sounds legit. One concern we should be aware of is if they purged what they perceived as inactive data or accounts which could be construed to include our forum given the huge drop off of traffic (and thus ad revenue) after the announcement. ND, can you do some checking on that?
