Hi all, its been a while since shared my latest ships from my still-growing War at Seas fleets. For those who don't know me I was active on the old forums, dabbling in the 'what-if' and hypothetical conversions of warships. I was inspired by the works of Drittal, Seisen, SirValentine, JFKziegler, and many more. Without further ado:
First up, my take on the USS LaFayette, a planned carrier/troopship hybrid of the SS Normandie, a seized French liner that capsized in a New York harbor after the Fall of France. However the costs to repair and convert the stricken ship were too great and she was scrapped instead.
Next, I found this ship when researching catamaran aircraft carriers, its the USS AVC-1, an aircraft barge. Nicknamed the "Silver Queen", she was developed for seaplane and flying-boat operations. Originally she was to be fitted with diesel engines for propulsion but the war demanded her berth and she was launched incomplete. The Queen did carry out some floatplane tests, but she never found her calling. On her deck I added a Bell YFM-1 Airacuda aircraft.
Now we head over to Europe, with the French 'Croiseur de Combat'. This strange looking ship is a hybrid, I found information on this ship in a really cool book I bought that's dedicated to the design studies of hybrid warships. (RD Layman's Hybrid Warship: The Amalgamation of Big Guns and Aircraft.) The ship is similar to the HMS Furious in her earlier carrier builds, with rails and decks built around the bridge structure to direct aircraft to awaiting catapults.
But wait, there's more. The Japanese get two new ships. Both were inspired by their counterparts in the game 'World of Warships'. I built the battlecruiser Ishizuchi and the much larger battleship Izumo. Izumo was a design study done by the Japanese, with similarity to the British Nelson class battleships. I really like how Izumo turned out, but I feel like I could have done better with Ishizuchi, her bridge needs refining yet.
Thanks, and please let me know what you think.
