Firehouse and I connected via telephone for another AAAF dustup. He created the scenario, and made some modifications to the aircraft. This was a simple engagement: four B239 Brewsters encounter five I-16 Ishaks in open air. The B239s were "tuned down" from Aces to Average, with their maneuvre bonuses reduced to 4 (4 for Turn, Roll, Climb and Dive) They were also granted Evasion, but lost Expert Dogfighter and Superior Turning. They kept Absorb Punishment. Turn one: No contact, both sides too far apart. Turn two: Both sides began to make contact mid-board. There was firing, but no damage. Turn three: First blood is scored with one Brewster and one Ishak taking damage. Thanks to Absorb Punishment, the Brewster was not Crippled, but the Ishak was.
Turn four: A Brewster is flamed and another is hit, while a second Ishak is Crippled. Turn five: A second Brewster is flamed, while a third Ishak is Crippled. Turn six: The third Brewster is flamed. With a 60-point threshold for victory, Firehouse won the game. The Finns could not score a hit in this round. In fact, one Brewster was diving on an I-16, and only needed a 6 and a 5 with six dice, but got 4s, threes and 1s. Rats.
My tactics in this game included keeping the Finns spread out on the board so that it was more difficult for the Ishaks to use Swarm Tactics, and there were a few turns where only one or two Ishaks could use Swarm, but with the 2-point Armor on the Brewsters, a single "6" was very bad for them.

Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...
Yah, the "Little donkeys" were a serious challenge when they can swarm and pick off Brewsters with a weak armour value of two. Bill will get his chance at revenge when we replay this on Thursday and reverse sides.
