Several captains grumble about the Convoy Captain's decision, and the Convoy Captain in turn has sharps words for his navigator.
Captain Alekseyev happy that the commissar recommended his ship lead the way, having escaped the ice in the narrows safely thus far, he considers himself quite safe, and possibly eligible for a reward, since he thinks he will be the first to make it to Petrograd. Job 3 to E4
Convoy Captain Nabokov curses his luck. He was hoping to find the lower channels more clear, but the ice seems to be everywhere, Not too hard to avoid, so far at least, but that could change quickly. Job 6 to E5
The other captains hold up, waiting for orders from the Convoy leader. Other Jobs hold.

The convoy captains are thrown into confusion as Lenin, the convoy leader, sinks beneath the waves.
Captain Alekseyev heads onward, certain by the hesitation that he will be rewarded for his early arrival. Job 3 to E3
After a short conference over the radio, Captain Captain Tropov is elected to lead the way south, followed closely by Captain Jankelievich in the cargo ship Svetlena. Job 4 and 5 to F7
The other two ships follow behind. Job 1 and 2 to E7

Captain Kuragin, in charge of Revolutsia, drops his boats to pick up survivors from the cracked Karelia. Thankfully most all of the crew, including a violent Captain Nabokov, are rescued.
While Captain Alekseye seems to be headed into calm seas, the rest of the convoy skirts along the eastern edge of the ice fields in search of a safe passage.
Captain Alekseyev maintains course, ignoring the radio chatter from the other merchantmen. He has already spent the stipend he expects several times over; and he thinks to himself that, if the others were somehow to fail, he might even become a hero, the only captain with enough daring to make it to Petrograd. Either way, his mind is far from the conditions before him. Job 3 to E2
Captain Tropov gingerly moves south, alert for ice. Job 5 to F6
Captain Kuragin continues to head south, in case Tropov should encounter trouble, or worse, suffer the same fate of the blustery Captain Nabokov. Job 4 to B7
The other captains continue south, hoping that Kuragin will find a safer passage to the south. Job 1 and 2 to F7
