I am looking for 2-10 players to fight the battles in a grand WWII campaign to simulate the ebb and flow and the consequences of victory over an extended period. I would solicit input from the participants: the whole war or just one theater, the time period, etc. You would choose how to distribute your task forces and allocate resources, and I would give you battles based on what you and your opponents are trying to do. I’d be working behind the scenes to develop the lore and set up the battles with your input and based on the consequences of your actions. All you have to do is answer some questions from me from time to time and then fight the battles.
If we have a stable or roster of players for both Axis and Allies then as soon as you finish a game you can start another one with a new opponent. If we only have a few players then you’d be playing the same one or two each time. I know I can keep you busy though.
I've been working on something like this for my in person group. I'm not online enough to participate, however I would like to know how it goes. What worked well and didn't work well.
A thought concerning consequences (and feel free to reject this if it'd become too complicated); ships with class limits can be subjected to penalties depending on damage taken during a battle (say, the Enterprise gets crippled in a battle; the player has to shelve it for a battle or two while it's "in drydock" or the like), or even removed outright from future battles if they're sunk (so if Yamato gets sunk early on, a player can't use Yamato or variants in later matches, but Musashi is still fair game). I think it would allow players opportunities to get creative with their lists and bring out some ships that get neglected, and perhaps present a strategy challenge if you don't want to risk a powerful piece getting knocked out of the game.
Or it'd just be more bookkeeping and headache, it could go either way at this point.
The man who gets beat down isn't the loser. The guy who can't tough it out to the end, he's the one who loses.
