Having just bought a large quantity of units from a charity shop, played a few games, it has become apparent that the Italian Stalwart Lt is all but useless... I think it might have been better to have had him able to keep the conscripts from running away rather than his current ability.
Are italians, keep your troops near the lieutenant against the enemy, go ahead, and gain CA against vehicles with +1 if they try to escape. But you can live without him.
I find the Italians in the land game are not nearly as competitive as their sea counterparts. In my small sample of table top games, I've only seen them play well where they are backed up with some German armor. If anyone has a good strategy for playing the Italians I would be curious to hear it!
For a somewhat competitive Italian build, add the Alpine troops for their Steely Resolve staying ability & some Blackshirts for Ruthless to dispense with disrupted enemy units. They do benefit from German assistance always, the SS Haupsturmfuhrer for initiative bonus, Exert Will/pull disrupted counters & as already mentioned, German armor is always nice. One tip for the Italian tanks is if you have the Haupsturmfuhrer & are going first, this is the time to use the Italian tanks to attack, they at least get to shoot before possible destruction. I have also seen some people use houserules for conscripts that when adjacent to a commander, you can ignore the Lack of Determination negative SA. You can also attempt Human Wave attacks with them if you want...sometimes they get a few lucky dice rolls & cause some damage an opponent. The Italians are a challenge to play for sure but they can also be fun sometimes. Enjoy anytime you play, it is a fun game & Good Luck if you try the Italians!

Read the rules bartok. You cannot use Nationality Bonus with a mixed nation build. Hans will have to sit that one out.

What's the nationality bonus for Italy?

What's the nationality bonus for Italy?
It is in the Expanded Rules book & it is 10 points per 100 points. For a 100 point build, it is 110, 200 would be 220 & so on. It does have to be a single nation build to use it though. However, according to the book, you can have a 200 point army with 110 points of Italian & an additional 100 points of other Axis units or you may field 220 points of Italians. This is all found on page 15 of the Expanded Rules book.
@ bartok, While you have the rule book handy, clarify the rule for Adjacent if you would please & then explain why my "Kelly's Heroes" set up causes you so much consternation.
