Have played many great matches seaside and am hoping to get some more action going landside. Happy to play any country or theater and can do maps. Chime in if interested and we'll get a game going!
Hi Oaklander! I am an old AAM player who is mostly lurking these forums, but I have followed you and the others' online games and would like to try it out myself. As my recent IRL games have mostly been singleplayer scenarios by myself, I am quite rusty and would therefore like to have nothing too complicated to begin with. So 100 points, no formations and no extended rules (overwatch, grazing fire etc) would be preferable. I'm open to any countries, theaters, years and maps, so you can choose a setting you find interesting
Great! Sounds like we are in about the place for knowledge of the land game so we can both work on our rules knowledge. I only recently discovered the land game and I think it deserves much more attention than it gets!
How about Germans vs Brits, !941 in the desert of North Africa? I will let you choose a side and we can use this map from the maps page:
That's cool, it is such a great game indeed! For me it is the perfect combination of complexity and fun. Sounds good, I can be the British side. What is the objective, hex F8? Also, do you want to go East/West or North/South, and do we set-up 2 or 3 hexes from the edges?
I also struggle a bit understanding what some of the terrain on the map is, it is drawn so fancy haha. Are most of the rocky hexes hills, or are some of them bluffs (or even "forests" or brush, I see there are some green here and there)? What terrain is G9/H9/I9? Do we regard the open spaces as clear hexes or sand hexes?
All good, better that we are on the same page from the get-go! E8 works for the objective and I will mark it with a star on the map. Let's go east/west and setup within two hexes?
For terrain, while some of these might be intended to be bluffs and others hills, I think for simplicity we could just say that the elevated terrain are all hills. There are also towns, roads, and two lake/pond hexes. (There is also what appears to be a three-hex dry lakebed near the objective, but I think we can treat that as clear terrain.)
Note that the "clear" terrain here is Sand, which under the North Africa rules has the same effect as clear terrain except that vehicles with High Gear have double movement cost.
If all of that sounds good, I'll start a new thread and the first player with an army read can send it to a moderator in a PM! Second player posts their army, and then first player posts what they sent in the PM.
