I think I was a little to muddled. I wanted to try PT boats, and I wanted to try Montana but probably shouldn’t have tried both at the same time. I was thinking the AA protection range would help me with the PT’s but the way it worked out with the subs, I should have chosen destroyers instead. Perhaps I should have waited for the subs to come to my PT boats. I’m not sure I learned much, so any tips appreciated.
I counted up how many Torpedo dice you would have faced had you gone straight for the south objective and then the center. It was 37 submarine torpedoes. But even then you would have had to sink more of my stuff to get to 150. Tough slog. 37 torpedoes is 2 shy of that last six.
Really I can’t fault your build. It’s one of the pitfalls of the rock-paper-scissors of a 100-point game. If I had brought battleships you would have won. If I had brought a swarm fleet I could have taken two objectives but still would have had to sink Montana. Probably not going to happen. If I brought air, the dive bombers would have been as ineffective as the kamikazes were. So the only remedy was torpedoes, either by air or subs. And air is not so good when you roll 9 dice AA.
