Battle of Piva Forks-Attack on Cibik Ridge
How about some more Bougainville Campaign.
Try this one.
Background
21-23 Nov 1943
While on patrol, the 1st Platoon, Company F, 3rd Marines, commanded by First Lieutenant Steve John Cibik, engaged in a fight for possession of a ridge 400 feet long, later to be named in honor of the platoon leader. Although this action was comparatively small, it had important aspects.
Victory Conditions
Japanese-Drive the Americans off the ridge by turn 8.
Americans-Avoid Japanese victory conditions.
Map Configuration
Easy-1 name in the lower right corner Fox-2 name in the lower right corner
Maps longways side-by-side
Map Setup:
1. Americans setup on the ridge on Easy-1.
2. Japanese sets up anywhere on Fox-2.
3. Japanese sets up the two 70mm Type 92 Infantry Gun as follows: one in the east jungle on Fox-2 and one in the west jungle on Fox-2.
Special Rules and Options:
1. Japanese attacks on three fronts: Right, Center and Left in front of the ridge
2. Add Balance to the Scenario:
Americans: exchange bazooka for MG Team.
8 turns-Americans setup first, Japanese moves first.
Aftermath
The following day (23 November), the enemy launched an organized attack against the ridge but were driven back when succeeding assault failed. In this action, two Marines were killed and two more were wounded. Late that afternoon, Cibik's platoon was relieved, as the remainder of the regiment built its line up to his position. There is no doubt that the Japanese felt pressed to regain control of this commanding piece of terrain, for it afforded observation of the Empress Augusta Bay area, and in U.S. hands, it cut communications to the Numa Numa Valley.
