I am planning on playing the D-Day campaign scenario "Regina Rifles at Nan-Green" this weekend. The special rules state "If a Higgins boat is damaged or destroyed any soldier units except ones of the type Soldier-Artillery may debark from transport into adjacent hex. Ignore water restrictions for the purpose of this rule."
I am assuming they may still be fired upon form the Germans from shore. My question is, would they get a cover roll for being in the water?
Thanks

Not sure if there is a game mechanic ruling on being in water, but from a practical application I would say no. A soldier wading to shore would only get partial protection from the dramatic slowing of a bullet or shrapnel caused when these enter the water as the soldier would have to stay submerged to be fully protected this way. Not really practical for someone that needs to breathe. In addition, the underlying ocean floor is often full of hazards such as holes, rocks, and even man made items like barbed wire. Just walking to shore with a full kit is a slow, physically exhausting exercise. Put all of this together and the negatives certainly cancel out any advantages the limited "cover" water gives.
Take a look at point 4 Wizards of the Coast´s Scenario_DD3 Regina Rifles at Nan-Green.
Courselles-sur-Mer, France, 6 June 1944 At 0745 hrs on June 6th 1944, the leading waves of A Company of the Regina Ri and First Hussars land abreast of Courselles-sur-Mer to take part in the assault of Fortress Europe. The beach defenses must be neutralized or circumvented and the town seized.
Special Rules & Options 1. This scenario uses the Juno map set, available for download at www.axisandallies.com 2. Soldiers may use their Vehicle Attack Values and Close As- sault S.A. against units in a pillbox. 3. If a Higgins Boat is damaged or destroyed any Soldier units except ones of the type ‘Soldier – Artillery’ may debark from transport into an adjacent hex. Ignore water hex restrictions for the purposes of this rule. 4. Soldiers in water hexes may not target any units with SAs or attacks or use commander abilities but may move. As soon as a Soldier unit exits a water hex into a non-water hex, place a face up disruption counter on it. 5. Higgins boats that are no longer transporting Soldiers may be removed from the board and used for the second wave of boats.
Thanks guys. Question 2. The DD Sherman has speed 4 on the stat card. I would assume the speed would be reduced for this scenario while it was in the water. Any ideas?
