This may be old news. I found a source on Etsy for 1/1800 ships.
The mini quality is good, but for the cost savings, I'm willing to sacrifice some quality. The company is XPForge. The owner is super communicative and easy to work with. For example, after I completed my order, he let me swap out an aircraft carrier for different one. He also offers free shipping on orders over $35.
I like the way he has fixed pricing and material he uses is smooth, unlike the White Versatile Plastic. For 1/1800 ship and 1/900 plane, the pricing looks like this:
Carriers - $10 Battleships - $7 Cruisers - $3.50 Destroyers - $1.75 Subs - $1.50 Airplanes - $1.50 or buy in lots to save more money.
He also sells Fleet packs which offers even more savings.
Here are pictures of some I painted and comparison of quality detail with others. For comparison, I took pictures with a Versatile White Plastic ship from Shapeways and a WAS mini. The ship in the middle is the XPForge mini.
Thanks for the contribution. I always appreciate pictures of my models.
Tim over at XPForge has outdone himself to the point that I don't even want to upload to Shapeways anymore. His resin prints beat out Smooth Fine Detail Plastic and his FDM prints are better than White Natural Versatile Plastic. Both are generally at a discount though his pricing model does make some smaller carriers more expensive than Shapeways.
Additionally as you mentioned, the customer service is phenomenal and he doesn't make me jump through hoops just to let a customer buy at a different scale. (I get requests for smaller and larger than 1/1800 and it's such a hassle on Shapeways.) I even had him print a model in 1/3000 scale for a customer that Shapeways had refused to print.
The quality drop you mention isn't his fault by the way, it's my design policy. My models are typically a little less detailed than a couple of the other designers that upload to Shapeways. I really envy Tiny Thingamajig's designs.
I just received a gift of a locally printed Northampton cruiser from a guy in our game club using one of Ghukek's files to create it. It is really very nice. Home printers have come a long way!

I noticed in XPForge's listings, Tim lists Ghukek as the source for designs. I also noticed in your Shapeways postings the minis are an approximation of the design. I'm happy with the designs. And yes, Tiny Thingamajig has some great designs. I'm painting up 3 of his Spitfire squadrons this weekend.
Next on the list is buying some non-WAS italian planes.
I say every model is an approximation because I can't promise that it's perfectly to scale. The moment I make any adjustment for better printability I deviate from a perfect scale model. It's a compromise that is necessary for the medium and scale.
The main things I do are: - Thicken radio masts significantly. - Drop the detail on small guns and represent then by a single cylinder. - Thicken gun barrels. - Tie gun barrels together for strength. - Taper off overhangs both to account for printer limitations and add strength.
With these in mind and considering I sometimes have less-than-perfect source material, I don't feel comfortable calling the models perfect representations. This is the origin of my "approximation" disclaimer.
Another part of this is that I do ships by class most of the time. I'll base the model off of a specific ship in the class in most cases but ultimately many ship classes have minor variations between individual ships. I'm open to looking into those specific cases and making a variant. (I actually just took a commission to modify Takao into Maya, Iowa into Missouri, and Fletcher into Johnson. My spreadsheet shows all available variants.)
All perfectly reasonable for table top game pieces. There are some beautiful minis out there that a very close to true scale models, but I've found them to be pretty fragile. From my perspective, a few compromises for a durable game piece is highly desirable! Good stuff!

I have been quite satisfied with XForge/Ghukek's minis. That they are available in gray is a godsend to those of us that are painting challenged. I have just ordered some of the new resin models after receiving a free sample. I have found most of them quite accurate. The only scale problems I have noted is the short length of the RN, RCAN & RAN River Class (Which should be roughly the same length as the US Tacoma) & the IJN Tone Cruiser which is significantly shorter than it should be. Otherwise I am very happy with these models.
baldeagle...excellent point. The gray is helpful. I use clear gesso and I don't feel the need to paint the entire mini. I add some color here and there and I"m happy.
Every payday...Tim is going to get at least $40 of my paycheck for several months to come. So are some Shapeways sellers as I desire certain Regia Aeronautica and RAF planes.

Thank you for the feedback, I'll double check those models and adjust if necessary.
Edit: The Tone should be 105.06 mm. If it's not that size for you then you may have received a smaller scale in error. Please reach out to XPForge to have this rectified. My model for it is accurate. The River-class, however, I had mistakenly grabbed the P/P length as my reference point rather than the O/A. This caused it to need to be enlarged by 6%. The proportions were correct though. I will have an updated version out to XPForge by Tuesday 26 May at 9 A.M. EDT. Because this was my mistake, I'll direct XPForge to re-print and ship the models at my expense.
One of my new fleets arrived today! 2 IJN carriers that would have cost me over $100 on eBay. $20 is much better and I like to paint miniatures. Very happy.

My sources indicate a length of @ 112mm for Tone, just shorter than the other IJN heavy cruisers. At 105.06mm Tone is shorter than Oyodo at 107mm when Oyodo was really @ 9 meters shorter.

I'll be happy to take any documentation for the length of Tone. Right now I have 189.1 m for Tone and 192 m for Oyodo. If my source is wrong, I'll be happy to change my model. 'll
