***COPIED FROM REBEL’S ORIGINAL POST ON THE OLD FORUMINI***
Welcome to the AAM Cartography Thread, hopefully this should fill any voids for online/printable maps, and be a future storage for more maps.
Original Terrain Maps
Making a map of this type is very easy, all that is needed is a clone-stamp/copying tool and the original WotC maps. These maps are nice because almost anyone can make them, and they can be made quickly and easily. The downside to the maps is that they often appear "hex-y", and some times make it easy to tell where they were copied from. This type of cartography also includes maps made of single hexes placed on a blank map in a way that they make a map. An older cartographer may purposely "misplace" some terrain to make the map look less hex-based, but still hold the general shape.
As the name implies, most of these maps are made from the original 2 inch WotC maps released before the V2 minis came. Rarely are they made with the newer 3 inch maps because they are poor quality often. Many cartographers use this technique, including Sindor, Ober, and myself. (You can also make custom terrain out of the Original maps and put them on your maps)
Size
The Official WotC maps have been released in two sizes: 2 inch and 3 inch. The original maps from the Starter are the 2" size, (meaning each hex is 2" from side to side, not corner to corner) making them about 10.5x16 inches total. After the unit size change, WotC started making 3" maps, which are about 15.7x24 inches. Most of the WotC maps and my maps can be printed at full size and be 2", or printed at 150% (obviously) to get 3" hexes. Sadly Photobucket tweaks most of them to make them smaller, so if you want the full-size maps for printing 2" maps, then you will have to PM me your address or look for them here: www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/aam/maps
As for the other maps you might have to tweak 'em a bit to get them right!
