So, in a casual conversation today, I learned my wife not only really likes these shoes called Tieks (https://www.tieks.com/), but she apparently collects them. They all look basically the same to me, except they are different colors. She wears them all the time, and I never really kept track of the numbers. It turns out she has something like 20 pairs of these things! Holy crap I said! I buy maybe a couple pairs of shoes a year. I wear them until they are basically falling apart and then get another pair. I started to kind of lose my $#!^....then I looked over at the box of 2000 little plastic ships....and the box of 1000 little plastic tanks....and the box of 300 slightly larger plastic air planes....and...and...and...
I said to myself, "SELF! You should smile and be quiet."
I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way. - Captain John Paul Jones
The same reason I don't say anything about the copious amounts of nail polish and assorted tools and accessories to go along with it that are sitting 10ft away from (and of course I never use any of it myself, definitely not the magnifying lamp, brushes, emory boards, lol)
Sadly, my beloved spouse of 47 years does not have the collecting bug. Never wanted shoes or jewelry. Not a collector of porcelain figures or teacups. So she is not totally understanding of the closets downstairs that are filled with ships, planes, soldiers, maps, terrain, paint, etc. She was somewhat surprised but very supportive when I announced last year that I was selling some of my WAS and some of the AAAF. But when I mentioned the dollar amount of what I had paid for them and what I was hoping to realize from the sale, she was very, very quiet. Still married, so far...
