I am hoping to finally paint my set of Shapeways Albicores and the HMS Argonaut today. I primed these pieces for painting months ago. I have card requests for Newport News (No, this isn't a WW2 cruiser but a player picked up a Shapeways model and I am sure he wants to use it in a 1945 scenario. Hey, this is no less a fantasy then Oscsusnet's HMS Invincible, which was never built, sinking most of our Italian fleet with vital shots), the US Sealion submarine, and dealing with a standing order the German Type 1936(A) destroyers (Z23-30) that I hope to work on today or tomorrow. But if I don't get to the painting or cards, I attend the Games Empire War at Sea Monday session about every second week and will likely be there this Monday. War at Sea still lives pretty large over here.
I am, hopefully for the last time, compiling a tradelist. And its quite hard for me to do so. Maybe I will post it this time (unlike the last 5 years where i am thinking of doing it, but not doing it)

Played a standard 200 point IJN vs. USN tabletop battle (with a bunch of house rules). I captured 2 objectives and sunk all of my opponent's surface combatants to win, but he insisted on fighting it out with the remaining units. I had Chitose, a damaged Kaga with only Zeroes left, and a crippled Aoba against his undamaged Saratoga with a full wing of Avengers, Dauntlesses, and Hellcats. His airpower proceeded to destroy everything, though not before a ridiculous surface battle between Chitose and Saratoga.
He argued that I couldn't win by claiming plastic disks floating in the ocean, while I said that fighting to the last ship was not realistic either. In any case, the intensity of the match was rewarding.

Sounds like a sore loser to me.
The Objectives serve to prevent "turtling" and keep the game moving along.
You can certainly choose to not use them, but that should be agreed to in advance. Our club has done so with some scenarios. Not using Objectives very significantly changes the game, and the fleet you would likely build.
Although the objective chips do force activity, a point game with objectives does usually degenerate into a contest with an absurd amount of trash littering the sea floor.
Today, while cleaning up some in the war room, I learned I have two extra Forumini decks, believe they're Decks D and E, as I already have sealed copies of them in my collector box

D is a rare deck these days. I think you could easily sell it in the Marketplace.
Back on topic: I have been trying to catch up on my miniature painting. I will hopefully have another giveaway soon.

The IJN Carrier Liberation Force - "Because We Care" Join the IJNCVLF. Service Guarantees Citizenship!
At our house, we are in the midst of a 250 point 1942 battle between my son Caleb (USN), and my daughter Kimberly (IJN). I'm advising both sides during their turns (they are 7 and 10). They do ultimately decide what to do, though. One thing that's been interesting in this game: IJN chose to forego any BBs to buy more airpower and submarines. Through some bad luck on the dice, she's lost all of her torpedo bombers, though, and has not even scratched the USS Washington. It's hard to damage BBs with dive bombers, and her remaining subs will probably not be able to catch Washington & SLC. I guess she's just going to have to take out the SLC with dive bombers and hope she can get lucky and inflict a little damage on the BB with a dive bomber run, then make a suicide attack with her two cruisers and see if she can take the Washington out with Long Lances before she goes down. American Air is almost completely destroyed. So the USN's strategy is going to have to be to send the Washington and SLC out to blast the IJN CVs and CAs.
The conclusion of the Kimberly (IJN) vs. Caleb (USN) battle above... in a melee at the end, all of the surface ships were destroyed. Japan won on a technicality (points), since she still had a crippled I-19 and a Rufe squadron, whereas the US had one B-25 squadron and one Wildcat squadron. I guess you could call it a very bloody draw, wish a slight strategic advantage going to the USN since America could recover from those kinds of losses, while Japan couldn't afford to lose carriers at that rate.
At our team party Sunday afternoon, I played one of my pee-wee basketball players. He and my son played a 150 point game as Japan against me playing UK. I sent in my Swardfish Mk II's in a couple of suicide missions against Yamato and Haguro - they just didn't have the armor to make a meaningful attack. But it gave the kids something to shoot down. Warspite got vitaled pretty early by a monster shot from Yamato. I picked off the sub chasers with my remaining air, and I had three Truculents that eventually took down Haguro. On my last turn, Samaurez and my Ark Royal were taken down by a damaged Yamato... BUT one of my Truculents nailed Yamato with two torpedoes on the same turn, finishing it off. We didn't count out the points, but it was about a draw. I had a couple of Truculents, a Sea Hurricane Squadron, and a couple of Swordfish left vs. an I-19 and a couple of Kates. Hopefully, it was fun enough he'll want to play some more. I imagine it's probably hard to compete with stuff like World of Warships to a 11 year old kid!
I've got two people painting some Shapeways 1/1800 scale models for me. Have replaced a lot of my WoTC models with Shapeway models. Have a lot of extra destroyer models and cards that I've been replacing with custom made cards. Been working on the following classes: IJN Shiratsuyu, UK N, V & C-class, IT Navigatori and UK Flower-class corvettes.
I just placed a large base order from Reacher, in hopes of getting the last decks of bases. I also ordered enough bases for my entire Italian fleet, 1 per named ship and 4 for each plane, sub, and DD. Lastly, I ordered another 100 of the aircraft bases. I can then go to Shapeways and pick up planes and a few non-WOTC ships that I might have missed.
Painted three of my newest arrivals.... no pictures since I am a Luddite when it comes to tech and not sure what to do on photobucket need step by step instructions or a Youtube tutorial.
Their ship their coffin The cruel dark sea their grave.
