I love WAS let me preface that. But looking online on facebook while people do love it there is also lots of what I would call almost animosity towards it almost as if WAS has personally wronged them and they have a vendetta that is personal against the game....why lol?

Too simple a game system for some. Lots of criticism of the sculpts not looking realistic, or not reflecting appropriate armament. The first time I showed some of the British warships to a naval gamer, he was citing chapter and verse about what should have been showing on the ship. The fact of the matter is that it's a GAME, not a real world reduced to tabletop size by a mad professor's shrinking ray. There are always compromises in making a simulation.
Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...

Because there is no $49.99 version with 150 2d mini's is what I guess.
People I know just can't play w/o me and my $$$$$ of ships so they don't play as often.
I love these guys that take 5-10 minutes trying to decide where and how they want to move in their "simulations." As if a Captain or Admiral has that kind of time to decide.

Two kinds of gamers; the Board gamers and the Miniature gamers..... how true except you forgot to mention the Magic card players and Pokiman players which are a whole different breed of cat.
But some of "us play both board games and miniature games".... I know some who play strictly Historical board and miniature games and refuse to play fantasy and vice versa...
Their ship their coffin The cruel dark sea their grave.
My favourite anti WAS post was someone who accused me of using WAS minis to play another game system because my setup looked too different from the starter I guess. Even though I am specifically posting about WAS, and somehow they made it like an insult like that looks fun so it cant be WAS....
Some people it's the way they decided to play the game; they hate boosters but didnt utilize the online vendors to buy singles. Or they hate how gamey red vs blue is in their words but they didnt play nation pure or historical scenarios etc
If I approached the game the way they did I probably wouldnt have liked it as much either (or others maybe they wouldnt like the way I play etc), there is alot of ways to enjoy WAS if you dont like it one way play it another way.

You’ve got to realize, if you didn’t get in on the ground floor of the game or spend a lot on the secondary market then you’re looking at just two kinds of setups.
One setup you got in late and Set V just came out, or Surface Action just came out. You have a lot of those pieces and were able to get Flank Speed and Condition Zebra retroactively. This is the better situation of the two.
The worse setup is that you missed 5 and 6, and your collection consists of Flank Speed and Condition Zebra. When you look at the set lists for those, there aren’t many competitive pieces (Helldiver) or iconic pieces (Nagato?!?) in there. From that perspective, the game is much more blah from a play standpoint and also less “sexy” from a memorable unit standpoint than the one we are used to.
It’s also a trendy thing to dislike something you are passionate about if there is nitpicking to do. I read a book this summer that did only that about the most popular sci fi movies ever.
I love the guys that somehow think taking 15 minutes to weigh the pros and cons of certain actions somehow think they're simulating a battle. Like a fleet commander would have that kind of time.
I also like to ask these guys for a system that has a decent air and sub component. Crickets every time

I think there is some gatekeeping in the hobby, people are very particular about the way they play and can be threatened by what they may view as change to the norm/standard.
Look at cruel seas it was getting mocked over things like "tournaments" and referring to nations as "factions" by the grognards.
Even though it's a different game people may still be bothered by the idea of new people playing these games in a way that they dont personally like...which seems silly but wargamers take this stuff really seriously there is some who still think if it's not hexes and counters its not a real wargame.
The wargame formula needs to be shook up a bit to appeal to people other then the grognards....there needs to be more games like WAS. Play the way that you like and have fun.
I use counters from SWWAS with W@S rules on theatre sized maps. What ever floats your boat.
I feel pity for people who's only apparent source of confidence is lording superiority over stranger with regards to a hobby. Cant be healthy
This is such a great idea.
