Hi all. It's a been a long time since I last built a ship. Mostly because I ran out of interesting research materials and wanted to take a break. Well that all changed when I recently got this book from Ebay, The Hybrid Warship: An Amalgamation of Big Guns and Aircraft by RD Layman. The book is really interesting, it covered early war World War 1 naval concepts all the way through to the modern era. From it, I've gathered new concepts to build from, and a few concepts from other media as well. With research materials in hand, and Google to look up displacements, I laid down the styrene. Here is what come forth.
French hybrid warship: 'Croiseur de Combat' (French for Combat Cruiser)
This is a strange ship, using 8 12" guns in two quadrouple turrets, with aircraft catapults fore and aft.
The next three ships are, the USS Lafayette (carrier/troop ship hybrid. A what-if had the SS Normandie not capsized. The middle ship is another strange one, I had a hard time acquiring data on this real life ship. Designated AVC-1, she was a catapult barge quite similar to Germany's Falke catapult ships. She was launched about 72% complete to make room for other ships being laid down. She tested the PBM Mariner flying boat but otherwise had a very quiet service life. Since I could find very little data on her complete state, I rolled with it. The small ship at the bottom is my take on the USS Erie (PG-50) Not entirely happy with it, building smaller vessels at this scale is tricky for me. (mostly inspired from playing World of Warships)
The next two ships came directly from World of Warships. The top is the Izumo, the Japanese tier 9 Battleship, clearly a draft for the Yamato design. Basically a Japanese take on the British Nelson class BB. On the bottom is the Ishizuchi, a draft for the Kongo class battleship (Vickers Design 472), she features five 12" guns in a 2 fore x 3 aft arrangement.
Please let me know what you think of them.
