Sgt Fury, Audacity, Protector George and I were going to play on USS New Jersey. We had all the details worked out but it was going to be too expensive. So we toured the great ship and then played at the local con. It would have been very cool but I believe they wanted $800 USD for the room and we didn't have enough peeps to make it affordable. We were going to fire a 5" gun too for a couple hundred bucks too.
Audacity ran a mini con at the Hastings and Prince Edward * regimental building when he was their commanding officer, * it is a battle experienced Canadian militia regiment with lots of cool militaria including 19th century cannons and stuff.
My avitar pic is one of the massive 16" gun turrets from the New Jersey
Hopefully my War at Sea stuff can make the journey to college with me. As I’m starting down the path of becoming an officer, I hope I can take a few ships to actual sea with me and do some rolling in what little downtime I’ll like have.
I thought of another one. Field Marshal Games con in Oshawa Ontario was always held at a RCAF legion building that was a airforce barracks in WWII. That was cool but the best part was that there is a tank museum right next door, the Ontario Tank regiment museum. Dozens and dozens of iconic tanks, many of them working. During two of the cons they ran a live tank demo, Shermans, Honey, Hetzer, T/34 and more. Very cool to take a break from the con to watch a live tank demo.
Barnaby Ore from the Hamilton Tabletop Gaming Society ran some non-A&A demo games at HeritageCon 13, a modelling show held at the Canadian Heritage Warplane Museum outside Hamilton. Surrounded by WW2 training and fighting aircraft, and the home of one of the world's only flying Lancaster bombers, this would have been an ideal location to run some AAAF. Sadly, I had commitments that weekend. Maybe next year!
Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...
While in the US Army, I had my original AA board game sent to me while we were deployed in Haiti. Set up in the tent and playing a game with the squad when a hurricane hit and flooded us all out. Managed to pile up some cots before we vacated the place and placed the game at the top of the pile. Waded back in the next morning and it survived the night. Still have it.
