Nope. This was real. This really happened. Desperately in need of more airbases, they decided to try to create an unsinkable one made out of a new mix called Pykrete, a blend of wood-pulp and ice if I remember correctly. When it was demoed at a meeting the Admiral presenting took out his pistol and shot at it, the bullet allegedly bouncing off and hitting someone in the foot. Winston Churchill was ecstatic and demanded the project be created. After spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to logistically solve all the problems that such a ship would face, the project was cancelled, with the only possible upsides to all the brainpower invested being that 1) the warship wasn't built or even attempted to be built as such would have been an egregious waste resources and 2) Britain realized the importance of large air-wing carriers.
With the amount of fantasy pieces on shapeways I've been expecting this to show up for a while.
Maybe its too daunting even for the designers! How big would it be? How much would it cost? How many shrimp boats would it capsize just placing it on the map? Questions, questions...
"That's right son, join the navy. Get behind a bloody big gun and knock the hell out of somebody"
"We went out, got our arses kicked, then came back again"

Next time you buy an appliance or something with a large block of styrofoam, cut a long, thin section out and stick a Lego on top to one side.
My desk has no shortage of half finished projects, but I'm tempted to build one. It would probably not be to scale, just to make it reasonably usable on the map. I'm thinking maybe a little longer, but much "bulkier" than Midway, which is already a pretty big model.
I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way. - Captain John Paul Jones
