Another FNG question. Mortar soldiers have the "SHRAPNEL 2" SA, each success against a "soldier" counts as two successes. Does that attack also to apply against "soldier artillery"? I am assuming it does. The thought being that the soldiers manning the gun are being affected.
Yes it does apply to Soldier/Artillery. The 88 with gunshield gets the +1 Defense against Long Range attacks in this case & Entrenched ATG unless they have moved get the 4/4 Defense. They are still considered Soldier type targets though, so the Shrapnel effect is still used. Mortars can be quite nasty against Soldiers, both heavy & light mortars can do serious damage with 5's & 6's. Use them often & enjoy the carnage...

Further to Curts comments, as deadly as they can be you always get a cover roll against their attacks.
The Japanese SNLF Captain, Pinpointer, & the Japanese Type 89 Mortar, Seasoned Crew, teamed up can be quite ugly. Cover only on a 6. The Romanian Mortar is another Seasoned Crew. Put them on a halftrack & you have some mobile light artillery.
