To make a long story short I have been thinking up unit profiles to use the AAM rules for other eras, at the moment 6mm Vietnam and Epic 40k, because I like the simplicity of the system and would be easy to teach/run at game conventions. Has anyone tried anything similar? I have some profiles for units in my head that I will be posting in a few days.
I didn't try that but I did kind of make an army that starts as Recruits & you advance to better units by surviving the battle, Untested Recruits become M1 Garands, a generic German Recruit becomes a Mauser Kar. I proxy Hungarian Hozigols for German Recruits,
It is a Campaign type game. You build armies for as many countries as you want, any country. Start with 10 Recruits, a +2 Initiative Leader & 25 pts. of Support Weapons. No vehicles until your third battle/game. Score points for all units that are left, Good Order = point value, Disrupted/Damaged score half. Points for Enemy/Opponent units destroyed, nothing for Disrupted.
To get to Elite units your M1 & Mauser level units by survivng a battle become Steely Resolve infantry. Level 2 in my "Ruleset". Level 3 units are the 5/5 infantry, SS including the Hauptsturmfurher & the Screaming Eagle Cpt. due to being +3 Inititative leaders. Incentive to survive & advance in unit quality /abilities. A required 5 minimum OOB for every level up to 2. 5 Recruits, 5 Level 1, 5 Level 2. You must replace any lost Support Weapons to original issue.....the ones you start with....this is your Basic Army. Fight battles/games, advance. Pretty simple.....survive, improve, score points.....buy things....game...battle....enjoy....make crazy armies. Lend/Lease between Axis or Allied countries is allowed for weapons/vehicles allowed, just not infantry. You can fight together, just can't buy Soldiers/Squads.
Snipers/Paratroopers/SS/Rangers/Heroes/Engineers/Wermacht Veteran Infantry are level 3...DAK are the German Level 2, Buffalo Soldiers are US, BEF are British Level 2.
You have 15 Squads, about a company, weapons leaders....give it a try....kinda fun & you really get to know the game in a different way!
I looked at creating a Korean War scenario but did not put anything together or playtest. IMO there is enough units with some custom's to fill in and make something just post war like Korea.

Snipers/Paratroopers/Heroes/SS
I wanted to play something like this but could not keep local players interested long enough. Too bad we are not neighbours.
