Let me tell you about my second Kraken...
I set sail in my St. Louis (B Hull), find myself in a Tier 2-3 match, Our 3 DD's to their 4... not great but ok. All three of our DD's set out to one side of the map (lots of islands off a shoreline) so I figure I'll head that way, bound to get some easy targets with all the torpedo dodging going on. On my way there I get some good shots on a Friant, but this poor Chester. I set him on fire with a solid broadside, he shakes it off. I set him on fire again, switch targets to a DD for a few, switch back and set him on fire Again. I'm getting closer to where the friendly DD's are smoking, fishing and showing me all sorts of things to shoot; a Sampson gets most of my attention. Then I notice the Chester (still on fire) is coming around the other side of an island, so I blind lead ahead of it over the island cover and set him on fire AGAIN. Whatever remains of his smoldering shell sinks beneath the waves (1). I switch back to the Sampson and finish it off(2).
As the smoke drops it's us Two vs a St. Louis, Umikaze, Emden, and Chikuma; with a V-25 and Caledon coming up behind us and that Friant sniping from far in front of us. I hurriedly send shots into Chikuma, pretty sure it's got the torps to get me, as a pair sail in front of me (I had reversed in the smoke, ran aground :3). As I'm firing into that Chikuma I catch sight of Friant a few hundred left trying to sail out of range, oh hell no. Bow guns manage to hit and finish Friant in two salvos(3), all my other guns are trying to stop that Chikuma. More torpedo warnings, they won't hit me... Novik? I get one more salvo on Chikuma(4). No idea how I'm still afloat, other than I got A LOT OF GUN and an excellent reload, but no time to think I'm just identifying threats and doing everything I can, meaning... OMG St. Louis and Emden! I'm not in position for that St. Louis so I fire at Emden, then the Umikaze cuts in... torpedo klaxon's are blaring in my mind, I get a salvo into it, look at the minimap a CL and DD coming up behind me, another salvo... I'm not going to survive, another salvo aimed at the torpedo mounts as i'm hoping against hope to buy another salvo by shutting down his main attack, no incapacitation notices but it blows up in front of me without getting torps out. I immediately focus back on Emden a few thousand out and light him up with my last two salvos, it catches on fire as I succumb to attrition of fire, the Novik follows shortly after. The Emden, burns and capsizes(5).
The rest of our team has their last BB's wedged in one area and two others intercept the Caledon and V-25 as they focused on the Novik and I. Today was a good day to die.
Then I got in my Wickes, connected 13 torpedoes with 3 Battleships for 90k damage. 14 would've kept me alive.

All our DD's die, LOS is lost, and it's me with a Novik silently sailing through a soon to be dissipating smokescreen. Everyone knows what's up, nobody can see what to do about it though. |
