Got to admit I'm not liking the Distance game. Sending attack planes at your carriers seems stupid until I can get into range to not have to roll for it. Only the "1st turn / -1/die on AA" makes it tempting.
Actually, only Ships can Spot Ships. You get a bonus to place for having already placed a plane, but that's not the same thing. So you do get the penalty, as would I if I went after your B17 (which is why I didn't).

Aren't you -1/die, which would make it 6 hits? If I'm reading the rules right. First turn you make an air attack, enemy AA is -1/die unless you've spotted the carrier (with a ship).
