I only just got it (PC) you basically run NASA, fly missions to accumlate science which unlock extra parts and tool. Youve got a pretty in depth editor to assemble craft to achieve your goals, in what ever way you deem fit
Great game, I played it a lot a couple of years ago! I guess they have added a lot since then, but the feeling of freedom and exploration is probably still the same! I loved to play it in Sciende Mode where you start out with pretty basic stuff and have to do research on your home planet and its orbit in order to unlock engines etc needed to leave the atmosphere. That way, you learn the game step by step, as you then proceed to send astronauts on space walks, land on the Moon and then use advanced technology, as well as the skills you as a player yourself develops, to go deeper into the solar system. The atmosphere in space is very unique, almost magical (especially the first times). It's peaceful up there, but also creepy in a way only space can be, and you always have the fear of making a small mistake leading to your spacecraft being lost in space forever. I remember when I made a slight navigational error trying to get my spacecraft home from the Moon, then burning too much fuel trying to correct it. However, it was not enough and as the fuel tank was depleted, it was sent on a path far into the unknown
