hahaha. I was in the Airforce, that was even better than the navy. You were always on base cause it was just the planes that went off on missions and returned to base after. No long deployments to the other side of the world.
When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrows these gave their today. ~J.M. Edmonds
Ha ha!! The Navy thinks they have it so good. A buddy and I joined the military at roughly the same time back in the eighties. He enlisted in the Navy and myself in the Army. After six years he had enough and left. When the 1st Gulf War broke out he joined the Air Force Reserves. When I asked him why he said to avoid going back onto a Navy ship. All he ever did during his time was sit inside a ship staring at dials. Plus he only get one bunk bed, limited personal space and no weekends off. I, on the other hand, served overseas in Germany and had a comfortable barricks room, good food to eat, lots of opportunity to travel & weekends off.
Of course, I was not a ground pounding infantryman. I was a 84 Charlie...a motion picture cameraman. You just have to join the right part of the Army, the supporting arm. No offence to my 11 Bravo fellow vets. They deserve all the praise and support we can give them. They do the hard work, so we can live in peace.
