Does the AAM game perform better with smaller firefights, or large battles? I personally prefer smaller scenarios, seeing as the game feels more balanced with a few good men, some support, and an AFV or two... but more food for thought: do you think the game represents larger scale engagements well (without over-house-ruling)? Or smaller? I have a decently large collection, but have only cluttered up a table a time or two. I find my most memorable games were with 100pt or less forces. Not sure why I care, but maybe it will help make more fun and interesting scenarios?
It depends on how much time and room we have. They are all good, both big and small scenarios. Small scenarios are kinda cozy and require careful gameplay as units are limited. Large scenarios on the big table allow you to play with lots of tanks and infantry and can accommodate more historical scenarios. This winter since my game room/man cave is officially finished we play a lot of 500 point games on the big 4' x 8' table.

Like Ober says, both can be fun & when dealing with time constraints, the smaller games play well. My gaming friends & I have also had some larger games, when time is not a factor. AAM rules work for both equally well. The larger scenarios do allow for more units to see more table time that might not get used & smaller scenarios let you sometimes play a couple games or more in a tight timeframe.
I have found 100-200 point games can allow a couple games in tight time, just switch sides sometimes can make builds useful for players. When you go over 200+ points is what I consider largers games. My collection, not complete by any stretch of the imagination but quite varied, allows us to create some Big armies for those times when we can really go wild & big with builds.
Personally, I am happy with both, anytime you can game with friends is always a good time.
I use to play a 2 v 1 game at 1,200-1,400 points on 12 maps. there are some house rules you need to adopt with larger games, and about 14 hours. Those were the days! Now it's just every 2 years at MaizeCon!
