I find the cards that one places all of the varied orders tokens hard to use (big hands small tokens?) and vulnerable to being bumped. I find the damage chits the same. I have not seen another method but I'm told they are out there.
Also so far I have not had a game where any semblance of real sailing battle tactics were used to better effect than just smashing into each other.
Audacity!
Every day I know less about WWII because every day I realise there is more to know!

Makes sense. I'm sure my friend we call butter fingers would not like the game. For damage, you can find or convert the chits into a chart to roll d6 or d20/d100 to check for damage value and type. If I wanted to play the game with bigger action cards I would print some out on cardstock.
I like the intent and the system for sailing the boats but I find the orders system very fiddly and frustrating
I find it the same way , the wind aspect is great but the other "details" can bog things down a bit I prefer x-wing over sails of glory.
I think if it had a D20 or something that included all the different effects it would be better its a hard game to manage anymore then 3 ships at a time.
Distribution and releases are slow, but after WOTC pulled the plug on A&A brandwide I drifted over to Ares, and am actually one of their Historical Consultants on both Sails and Wings of Glory WW2. Can't say what or when, but I CAN say we're working on some really cool South Pacific stuff.

What some of us over on the Anchorage do is we make copies of the log, laminate the copies and then note the draws in grease-pencil. Much less vulnerable to Jabba The Gamer delivering a game-scrambling table-bump that way... I don't get to play much, and my last game I was ROFLstomped by a tiny T-rex (see av for the toothy little terror that is my lizardkid), but the serious game-a-week-or-more guys swear by it.
