There doesn't seem to be nearly as much energy on the boards as in the past or range of discussions. I really miss discussing WAS.
What is the state of WAS games where you are? What are you playing? What are you noticing sort of WAS trends? I know a while back there was a bit of a trend to revert back to WOTC only/classic type games for a bit to change it up.
At this stage playing the game in whatever format that your having fun with to keep it going is the best thing to do.
Pretty quiet here. Usually played with a small group and my adult sons but all but one has moved away. The local game shop which was less than a block away relocated out of the neighbourhood. Looking forward to my pending retirement as will have more time for online games and painting the Shapeways I have been accumulating. I do check the discussion threads here several times a week to see what is afloat.

if you're looking for an online game, I've never played through the forums before and I am sure I am not good at the game in general, but I am itching to play a round!
Pretty slow in my area (Raleigh NC). Seemed like a few years back there were some games going about an hour away at a game store near Ft. Bragg. I play solo games mostly. I hope to get to my local game store soon to give it a go with some guys I've played Memoir 44 and Bolt Action with. Right now, too much still dealing with the move to our new home. Right now, my "need to paint" inventory is high and especially after just receiving the humongous Queen Mary from XPForge (thank Tim! Great print job and excellent packing as usual).
Here in San Diego, our group meets every Tuesday night at Game Empire for a game of War At Sea. We have a campaign game that has been going on since last year. Basically it is a historical campaign in the Pacific that starts right after Pearl Harbor. Library and other resources are used that let us know where every IJN/IJA air squadron is located in the Pacific as well as all ship movement for both Axis and Allied navies. Map movement by the game master and then intercept reports; we have had some real intense battles going on. For the land battles we use Memoir 44.
War at Sea is alive and well in San Diego.
Their ship their coffin The cruel dark sea their grave.
Adelaide, SA. I dint know of anyone locally that plays. Ive only met a half dozen who have since it came out. There is a healthy wargamong scene here just not much naval play
Columbus, Ohio. I have one friend who is willing to play, though with the number of games we have it hits the table but rarely. The local FLGS is more a haven for MTG and Games Workshop younglings, and I have not seen anything naval played in a looong time.

I had been playing the game with a friend for about two months after not playing for years. They had to drop do to their college life changing. It was the first time I had played the game since it was a living game. It was pretty much the best gaming I had done since Covid craziness.
We played with the RB facing rules but didn't own any of the forumini cards or shapeway models. I make a lot of terrain as a hobby so when we started playing I started crafting again. I have an old Hotz mats felt mat that we used. Our games ran as mostly 200 point games full destruction. Some 100 point objective games. We also played a take one of each ship from your collection game. He had ~600 points to my 500. I was planning on throwing more house rules at our games before he had to drop out.
Since the game started years ago I went from getting taken by my mother to the mall to play, to getting married, owning a house, and having a child with another on the way. My Wife plays the game occasionally and that's fun but it's not the same. It's difficult to get into a new game with how busy things are. I can't justify leaving my wife at home with the kid so I can go have fun unless she gets to do the same. Right now she's pretty stuck at home and not able to travel.

Fantastic
If you can, get that reciprocal arrangement in place. Relationships really benefit from individual hobbies and goals. So.you don't loop into the same conversations and activities.
Ann Arbor Michigan, still playing with my small group at my place. I finished a 1200 sqft barn loft for gaming and we use all my WAS stuff, just added a new player! We only play highlander style (sisters allowed no duplicates) and it continues to be one of my favorite games!

What size games do y'all play? Highlander is how I would prefer to play, but I've had trouble with my group when there are too many cards/ships.

Love the game. Still want to complete my project of amassing all the custom cards into a database, but I have gotten married, have a child, and work 2 jobs. I just don't have the time I used to.

Anywhere from 50 PTS to 1000+ depends on the day and what we feel like. Large battles we put 2-3 players on a side and divide responsibility. Someone takes land air and subs, someone takes surface ships, third takes CV's, etc
Regular games 150 pts i find the games are the best balanced at that level.
Also play massive fleet engagements in the 1000's of points that have a key victory objective.
Overall don't get to play as much my life is 10x busier then it was 10-15 years ago but occasionally do like to do things that are different whether a new twist conditions or trying out different units like to focus on fun more about seeing things in action.
Sadly, I haven't been able to find players since my last group broke up in... 2008. I've done the online games a few times, but life's gotten busy nd I haven't been able to play there as much as I would like
