Here we are, mid October & much has changed there & other places....any speculation on what this Holiday Season has in store for this situation & what it might become...anyone...anyone...Bueller...
I Wish Us All Well as we enter holiday & election season.
Well, it all started back in 2014, when the legitimate, democratically elected, pro-Russian gov was overthrown, and for some reason we all celebrated, and didn't think it would cause problems, or was, well, wrong! It didn't help with the centre of government being located in the pro-west area.
Ukraine was pretty equally split between pro-west to the west, and pro-Russian to the east. The further each way you went, the stronger the feelings. So the far east was strongly Russian, and they had just had their gov illegally taken away, and so they were really pissed, and rose up to fight for their democratic rights.
The Crimea was also strongly pro-Russian, too much of a strategic Russian location, and immediately annexed.
So, in the new elections, with Crimea gone, and the Donbass not allowed to vote, guess who won?
And then the west started courting Ukraine with promises of EU membership and NATO entry. Hmmm, who might that piss off?
Throw in some actual real token nazis, not the Proud boys, and you have a perfect storm.
I put my hand up straight away and said, hang on, this isn't right, but no one seemed bothered. But then I've found that happening a lot these days.

So now we have everyone clamouring for Germany to send their tanks into the Ukraine to kill Russians. Does anyone think this is maybe a bad idea? I'm sure there are many other ways for the Germans to help Ukraine.
The German tank thing is an issue for the Russians. One of many that led to the war in the first place.
I in no way condone what Russia has done. It is an evil act. But I'm not blind to what they see as leading them to this act. We should not have supported an illegal overthrow of a legitimate government just because it suited our objectives in Ukraine.
If a pro-western government had been overthrown and a pro-Russian one installed, there would have been legitimate calls for international action to reverse that. Why did that not happen in 2014? The Russians see themselves as the liberators of the eastern Ukrainians' liberty.
The pre-war situation was a lot more nuanced a situation than what we are shown. Look at the many articles in the west concerning corruption and suppression by Zelensky in Ukraine. Concerns about Nazi elements to the overthrow and retention of power. There is a lot more context to this than initially meets the eye.
Almost a year now & We The People have learned much about the, shall we say, many participants of this conflict & much is yet to be learned but I hope all who could, smiled for the camera(s) as the "Lost Balloon" overflew your part of the country. As far as I can tell, we haven't had one yet over the desert but...Keep Looking UP, never know what you might see or who might be looking at you.
