I am looking for guidance on this. One of our members wants to create a US destroyer card with two SAs. The SAs are "Antiaircraft Specialist", basically 2 AA attacks at separate targets in the same sector, and "Close Escort", an SA that allows for a stacking limit of 3 friendly ships in a sector. The unit chosen (DD 405, the Rowan, a Benham class DD using 1943 instead of 1941), may not be the best for it anyway but mostly I am wondering if those SAs appearing together on the same card are too powerful. Or is the combination fine as long as the card is costed appropriately (pricy compared to similar DDs)? Or is now everyone just going to want a copy of this card?
Just for additional information to consider, the current proposal was a cost of 8. However, the Sterett, a Forumini card with the same stats that is also a Benham class destroyer cost 7. 8 definitely feels low to me considering the Sterett comes with Valiant Stand and Damage Control SAs. The Sterett has an AA of 5 (reflecting 4 5"in/38 mostly, it doesn't seem that the slight increase of 20mm and 40mm guns on the Benham class DDs between 1941 and 1943 would warrant a 6 AA as it seems in War at Sea it is really the 5"/38 Duel Purpose guns that really count toward the AA rating). I did look at the history of the Rowan and some argument could be made for a good AA SA of some sort. The Rowan was involved in shooting aircraft down during the ill-fated PQ-17 convoy misadventure for example. But perhaps Desperate AA (a once a game shot vs. every turn) would be more appropriate then Antiair Specialist.
