Once again, there will be lots of opportunities to play War at Sea at Origins Game fair again this year. We have been sponsoring these tournaments for many years (at GenCon in the past, and moving to Origins three years ago.) As always, the highlight is the Saturday night "Forumini Open" WaS three-round tournament. Prizes will be Shapeways miniatures painted by me and some other WAS related stuff. We also have a "team" event to teach new players how to play the game to be led once again by au64. This "teaching" game has turned into a very popular team event in its own right.
I will post the specifics when the registration system is online.
As for the War at Sea events, here's what I found. Please note there's a typo on the name for the Forumini event.

The Axis & Allies War at Sea Miniatures SEALED LEGAUE is an event where each player may play as many 1 on 1 games of WAS with other players registered in the League during the first the 3 days of the Convention. The latest Axis & Allies War at Sea “Advance Rules” will be used. At the end of the 3 days, the top 8 players with the best overall records will play in a Single Elimination (SE) round bracket to determine the overall LEAGUE winner.
● Each player will be provided a pre-constructed starter fleet of their choice, either Axis or Allies. This Starter Fleets will be preconstructed from the Advance Starter Sets and Condition Zebra Boosters. All fleets will come with a registration card that must be registered with your name on it and given to the Judges to be made legal before league play begins and updated after every game played. In order to receive a Starter set for this event, you must play a minimum of 3 games.
● All Fleets must be 100 pts. or less for game play. You may interchange fleet units between games with your extra units and TRADING between other players in the League is strongly encouraged. All unit trades must be registered at the AAHQ on both of your registration cards to make the trade/fleet legal. (see fleet errors at bottom of sheet)
● Tie Breakers for the league play: 1.) Head-To-Head 2.) Most Overall Points Killed for all games played. Rules for all games:
A. During a league game, it is possible that both players may have an Allied or Axis fleet. B. Game Duration: 1 hour time limit, there is no limit on the number or rounds/turns. C. All Rules clarifications from Avalon Hill site are in effect. Setup & Objectives: Setup is based on the normal setup rules. Each player may bring 1 single sector Island to the table to place on the game board. Using a blank map with no islands, place the three objectives in the center row two spaces away from each other. After determining play order, each player then, in turn, may choose to place 1 island on the game board in any legal space. Darkness and Squalls will not be used. Objectives: To control an objective sector, you must have one or more ships in the sector at the end of the Air Return Phase and your opponent can’t have any ships in or adjacent to that sector. REMEMBER-Submarines and Aircraft don’t count for controlling or contesting objective sectors. Units with NO SEA CONTROL cannot control a sector but CAN contest one. Once an Objective is controlled remove it from the map, each objective can only be scored once. Initiative: Flip a Coin. The winner sets up first. First Player Deployment. The first player picks one end of the battle map and deploys his or her fleet there. You can deploy your Ships anywhere in the row of sectors on your edge of the map. You can deploy your Submarines anywhere on your half of the map (the first five rows of sectors). You can’t set up Ships or Submarines in a sector containing an island. You must place your Aircraft in the same sector as a Carrier (if you have one) or at the land airbase in your corner of the map. Second Player Deployment. The second player now deploys his or her fleet on the other side of the battle map. Stacking: The stacking limit in a Sector is 2 Ships, 1 Submarine, and 4 aircraft per side. Victory Conditions: The first person to score 150 points wins! You score points by: • Destroying an enemy unit. Score points equal to the cost of the unit destroyed. • Capturing an objective. Score 50 points per objective; there are three objectives on the map. • Destroying your opponent’s last surface ship (all ship types that do not have the NO SEA CONTROL special ability), you score 50 points. • It is possible that both players can reach 150 points or more in the same turn. In that case, the player with the higher score Wins!
After each game played, BOTH players may add to their collection of units by reporting their results to a judge at the AAHQ. The winner rolls 2 dice & chooses which unit he/she would like to add to their fleet based on the numbers rolled. The loser of the match rolls 1 dice and gets the unit rolled. Each player then records their new unit(s) on their fleets score card. ALL UNITS received for game played and traded for in this event are the players to keep! Fleet Errors: If after the first roll of the dice or at any time during game play, one side or the other has realized that there is an error in the number of units and/or points allocated to one’s fleet for that game, that fleet will be left as is. So is life in war. War is not fair so, making sure your fleets are legal before play begins is critical. The judges will have the final decision on all rulings.
ENJOY & HAVE FUN!
