This is scenario number 1 for the Strike North! Norway 1940 series of scenarios.
It depicts a small but important engagement that occurred on April 10, 1940 north of Oslo between Norwegian forces and a German ad hoc force put together by Hauptman Spiller in hopes of capturing the Norwegian Royal Family and national government located at Elverum. It has been designed for two players with a game length of approximately 2 hours in 7 to 10 turns.
The original map that I designed depicts the Midtskogen area in a sort of late winter / early spring. I just assumed that no snow was on the ground on April 10, 1940. But a movie (The King's Choice) depicting this particular battle shows snow on the ground. Rather than toss my original map, I decided to make both a spring and winter version available to players. For MaizeCon the winter version will be used.
Rather than rework the roads and the forest terrain with "winter" versions, I simply slipped a snow layer underneath everything and decided this would be good enough for the winter version.
Both versions also received map names and compass roses in the lower right corner.
