I'll try and keep mine as short as possible as this is the category I could make a long list for. Just picking half a dozen solid destroyer leaders would be no problem.
Work in progress:
DDs: Well where to start? I for one hope we see more than a token gesture of ONE unit for this set as the choices demand it and we have more than a well stocked selection of big units already. Hard to rank these as well.
1. HMS Faulkner - Destroyer leader. Arguably the best balanced DD type going into the war for various actions/duties. Full action packed war service. New class. 2. HMS Onslow - Destroyer leader. VC action Barents Sea. Mid war class DD to bring us up towards Saumerez we got and more worthy for History sake than Barfleur, which came too early in the selection process IMO. New class. 3. HMS Hardy - Destroyer leader. VC action Narvik. Other famous unit of the time alongside Glowworm. New class. - Kiss me Hardy! 4. HMS Foxhound - Full action packed war service as well as being known as the go between boat at Oran. New class. 5. HMS Hotspur - Full action packed war service. New class.
Personally I'd like to see a DD leader and then another stalwart pick besides.
Other leaders could have been added like Grenville (II), Pakenham (Which for its short time in service had arguably the best equipment fit and selected crew aboard), Lafforey (which was lost with one of the best DD captains aboard as well as sterling service up to then). I have seen Kelly mentioned a couple of times but put simply this is not worthy of a pick in front of the half a dozen destroyer leaders in front of it. It was a Jonah of a ship handled poorly for the most part and recipient of considerable scorn/ridicule from the rest of the destroyer fleet. I have read a lot of memoirs touching on this and it was unfairly put on a pedestal because of its captain. Jervis (which I have not shortlisted above simply because I'd prefer a new DD leader class type) was the most obvious affected by this, being its overlooked sister ship class type DD leader. If in doubt RESEARCH!
Aircraft: (Coastal command) Whitley MK.VII, Lancaster lookalike with two engines. On the front cover of the recent osprey book covering Condors and shooting one down.
Others:
HMS Rorqual - According to wiki the most successful mine laying sub of the war and the UK needs a sub with mines. Simple! Only one of its class to survive. New class. HMS Starling - It's quite surprising really we haven't had this yet considering the who. what's & why's. Who? Johnnie Walker, say no more. What? Most famous of a very successful unrepresented class. Why? Stalwart pack leader that led the way in hunting down 14 U-boats. HMS Cairo - Give us another of the 'valiant quartet' of c class AA cruisers. All are worthy and we've had multiple US Atlanta types. HMS Audacity - Important stop gap and busy in its short period. Eric 'Winkle' Brown survived its sinking to go and achieve what he did. I'd be happy if this light carrier was the largest UK pick of the deck! New Class.
HMS Springbank/HMS Maplin - CAM ship type's with a Hurricat! A dedicated UK Fleet tanker (RFA or whatever) to boost slow rolls. Macoma was not dedicated and anyway Dutch.
HMS Hotspur - nominated often, but never chosen - First Battle of Narvik, sank U-79 with HMS Hasty, very active throughout the war HMS Starling - Seconding gaz01 nomination. Who? Johnnie Walker, say no more. What? Most famous of a very successful unrepresented class. Why? Stalwart pack leader that led the way in hunting down 14 U-boats.

HMS Rorqual - Per gaz01 - According to wiki the most successful mine laying sub of the war and the UK needs a sub with mines. Simple! Only one of its class to survive. New class. HMS Effingham CL - converted Hawkins class CA - light cruiser with a heavy cruiser hull, first to get experimental three gun turrets. Hunted German raiders and Narvik campaign before sinking. HMS Indomitable - Indomitable class CV - anchor unit for deck. Upgraded variant of the Illustrious class with greater aircraft capacity in exchange for less armor HMS Anson - KGV class BB - anchor unit for deck. Escorted Arctic convoys, provided cover during carrier attacks on Norway including attack on Tirpitz.

As I think of more units, I will continue to post my suggestions, but there were a few I wanted to mention right away.
Perhaps the unit I would like to see be added the most is HMS Jervis
HMS Jervis was a J-class destroyer, who had had an exemplary career. She has among the most battle honours in the Royal Navy, tied with HMS Orion and HMS Nubian at 13 honours. This is only exceeded by HMS Warspite. She was the leader of the 7th Destroyer Flotilla for the majority of the war, and served constantly in the Mediterranean. She she attacked Italian convoys, escorted allied convoys, supported land units, and sank the Italian heavy cruiser Pola in the Battle of Cape Matapan. Her constant service and 13 battle honours alone warrant her addition, but her most amazing feature is the fact that she never lost a single crew member from enemy action throughout the entire war. This is a trait that few, if any other ships have, let alone a ship who saw virtually nonstop service across 5 and a half years. It isn't as if she had an easy time, either. She was damaged extensively multiple times, most notably by a German glide bomb attack that blew the ships entire bow section clean off. Despite this, she remained afloat, and not a single crew member was killed in the attack. She even managed to pick up survivors of her sister ship, Janus, who didn't turn out as lucky as Jervis did. For the fact that she survived so long and lost no crew members to enemy fire, she earned the nickname "Lucky Jervis". For recommended special abilities, destroyer leader is an obvious candidate. Her profound luck should also be represented, through an SA already in game, or with a unique SA which could aptly be titled "Lucky Jervis"
As perhaps my favorite allied destroyer, I was surprised when I noticed she wasn't in game, and hadn't been recommended yet either. Anyways, my other recommendations are:
HMS Greyhound: A G-class destroyer with an interesting early war history, and whose story is being told in a future film scripted by (and perhaps starring) Tom Hanks
HMS Resource: A purpose built fleet repair and depot ship. Served throughout the war. She boasted foundries and machinery which could fabricate damaged components among the ships she supported. I may be wrong, but I don't believe the brits have a repair ship, like the USS Vestal. Naturally, "Repair" should be one of her SAs. I will also be recommending the repair ship Akashi for the Japanese.
Perhaps my descriptions are a bit long, but I felt like it would be good to explain the ships service and the reason why I think they should be added.
Not long winded. I think it is better when a nomination provides good information on why it should be picked. It also helps the devs if it is chosen.
I knew Hanks was working on a WWII movie about a destroyer captain, but I didn't know what it was based on. Very interesting. I will have to do some reading on HMS Greyhound. Thanks!

3) Other units: HMS Norfolk. A good unit as a historical scenario piece. Norfolk was involved in the sinking of both Bismarck and Scharnhorst and otherwise had an active wartime career.
